Book Reviews and Recommendations
Welcome to one of my first ever real Top 10 Tuesday posts! I’ve been wanting to really do one of these correctly (I’ve done them before on other days of the week, or I’ve done them out of order) so this week I’m doing the actual prompt for this week! If you aren’t familiar with T10T, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. You can check out her page for all of the prompts and such. This week’s topic is villains!
These villains are in no particular order because I don’t think I could actually pick a favorite villain. There are so many more villains out there that I haven’t yet experienced, but these are the ones that are my current favorites!
Pretty much the entirety of The Lord of the Rings would not have happened if Sauron hadn’t forged the One Ring in secret, and if Bilbo hadn’t have found it in the goblin caves. Yes, there are other more “evil” characters in Middle Earth, but I haven’t had the chance to experience them yet so Sauron gets the honor of villain in Middle Earth. For now.
While she isn’t the only villain to pop up in A Court of Thorns and Roses, there is just something about the way that she kept everyone in an almost permanent party and how she basically tortured them is pretty twisted when you think about it. Definitely not the most evil on this list, she is just twisted enough to make the list!
I might as well mention the other villain that I love to hate that Sarah J Maas has created, and that is Erawan. The whole reason that any of the plot in Throne of Glass happens is because of the actions of this one evil dude from another dimension who just wants to take over every single world. I’m really hoping everything turns out okay in Kingdom of Ash, but I have a feeling some of my favorite characters aren’t going to make it.
I hate her more than I could ever hate Voldemort. She is basically the epitome of an evil, child hating, fun sucking, tyrannical evil B**ch with a capital B. I’m pretty sure everyone is aware of who Umbridge is, so I won’t bore you with any more descriptions.
Alright, so he isn’t technically the main baddie from A Darker Shade of Magic, but Holland is such a great villain. He has a super interesting backstory, and once you learn the reasoning for his choices, you really start to feel for him. Schwab just has a way of making you really feel for her villains.
She’s pretty much just a horrible person. While I haven’t actually read Narnia yet, I have seen The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe movie. The way that she just orders her minions to shave Aslan and humiliate him, the way she turns creatures to stone, it’s all just so cruel! And of course, she also hits Edward and he’s only a child!
Yes, another Lord of the Rings evil character. Saruman was initially a good guy and was one of the wizards sent to protect Middle Earth, but he became corrupted by power. Saruman does some pretty messed up things while being a lackey for Sauron, but the one that gets to me the most is how he completely butchered the trees and Ents surrounding Isengard!
If you’ve never seen the extended editions of the final Lord of the Rings movies, The Return of the King, then you will have no idea who I’m talking about. I haven’t gotten that far with the books so I don’t know if this character shows up there and if he’s as creepy in the books as he is in the movie, but I literally was so creeped out I had to fast forward through the parts this character is in!
Maleficent is definitely my favorite Disney villain and that is why she makes it to this list. She gets all pissed that the King doesn’t invite her to the Princesses christening, so she curses her and leaves everyone hanging until the princess turns 16, when Maleficent still manages to get her revenge on the kingdom! Not only that, but she can also turn into a dragon, which is pretty badass.
How could I not mention at least one villain from Game of Thrones? The Night King just seems to be one step behind the good guys, or maybe one step ahead? Right now, the show is ahead of the books and the show version of the Night King already has a dragon of his own. But we will have to wait a while to see if good or evil will win.
Now I can say that I have successfully completed a Top 10 Tuesday challenge not only on time, but on the correct day as well! Let me know if you have any of the same villains, or any you would add as I would love to know!
Loved how you gave your reasons behind why you chose said villains!

thank you! It was fun to actually try to think of some villains instead of just throwing some out there!
