TBR Lows & Highs #3

Today’s post is my third installment in the TBR Lows & Highs blog meme! I’ve been really enjoying this, and I think that the biweekly posting is a lot easier to follow than trying to do it weekly since I’ve been trying to not add too many books to my TBR. But who are we kidding, I’ll constantly be adding things! I’ll leave links to my previous two posts at the bottom of this post!

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
    • ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now! (Thank you for this idea, Ari!)
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

I’ll be doing the original option of titles to purge, but I kinda cheated a little bit this week because they aren’t 100% removed from my TBR. Of course, any book can get added back on at any time, but the ones this week are ones I’ve had forever!

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien – “But Katie, you love LOTR!” Yes, BUT. I won’t be reading this specific edition so it’s coming off the TBR list! I don’t know why I always buy bind ups because then they are so large I don’t want to read them.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken – So I’m technically only taking this off my Goodreads TBR, I still own the book but I don’t plan on reading it anytime soon so it’s coming off until I read it! Yes, it’s kind of cheating but oh well.

Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind – This one is in the same boat as The Darkest Minds. I own the book (somewhere) and I don’t plan on reading it anytime soon. Plus, there are so many other fantasy novels that sound fairly similar.

The Queen of the Night by Alexander Chee – I was super excited when I bought this book, but I haven’t even looked at it since I bought it and I don’t even remember what it’s about.

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore – Magical realism just isn’t my cup of tea, so this book is going, going, gone!

The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest by Melanie Dickerson (owned) – I saw this one on book outlet and it sounded like it was a genderbent retelling of Robin Hood, and I love a good retelling so I bought it!

The Marsh King’s Daughter by Karen Dionne (owned) – I had my eye on this one since it came out, but it was always so expensive so I never even added it to my TBR. But then I saw it on book outlet for really cheap and finally took the plunge! It’s a psychological thriller about a woman who was the product of an abduction, and her father is considered the best survivalist in the world. Now her father is out of prison and she is the only one who can track him down!

The Rook by Daniel O’Malley (owned) – I saw this one floating around a few months ago and I think it was a book club book somewhere on booktube maybe? It looked interesting but when I saw that it was a humorous fantasy novel and saw it (yet again) on book outlet, I snapped it up!

A Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi – I was already excited for this book, but Destiny’s review sealed the deal and I want this book so badly now! I’m so sad I have to wait until I get paid next to get this one!

A Crown for Cold Silver by Alex Marshall (owned) – Another book that I was interested in but got super hyped once I saw a review! This time, it was Piera over on booktube who convinced me that I needed this book in my life.
