Book Reviews and Recommendations
It’s the fifth day of the ABC book challenge for me, which means the letter this week is E! This may be a tough letter for me but hopefully I can find a few books for each category. If you are unaware, this challenge involves mentioning books that start with a certain letter that were memorable, and ones that are on your TBR. So let’s just get right into this week’s letter. And as always, each title is a link to the Goodreads page for each book.
Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire – I wasn’t going to read this novella series, mainly because I’m not really into novellas. BUT. Then I read Into the Drowning Deep (Seanan McGuire writing as Mira Grant) and loved the writing so I gave in and listened to this audiobook and binged all three books in two days.
Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas – You didn’t think I would go through a week without mentioning at least one book by SJM, did you? The stakes in Empire of Storms were so high and the ending was so heartbreaking! This series is definitely in my top 10 series, so no surprise this book made this week’s list.
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng – This is a shorter read, but it was super emotional for me because it really hit me hard. The favorite child of a Chinese-American family (straight A’s, bright future, the whole nine yards) is suddenly found dead floating in a lake. Her parents then have to come to terms with how their seemingly perfect daughter wasn’t actually perfect at all.
Eragon by Christopher Paolini – I LOVED this series growing up! It was one of the first series I ever really fell in love with (I have multiple copies of each book because family members kept buying it for me, that’s how much I loved it!) I don’t think it would hold up now, but it makes the list because of the place it has in my heart. Plus Christopher is coming out with more stories set in this world and I’m super curious to see what happens with it and how his writing has improved since he was 16 writing this series!
Emperor Mage by Tamora Pierce – Another book in a series I loved as a kid! I always wished that I could be like Daine and shapeshift and communicate with animals, but I wish there were more than just 4 books because it never felt complete to me. But again, this series holds a special place in my heart.
Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill – This has been on my TBR for a while because when the third book came out it was ALL OVER instagram! So I of course bought this book and I haven’t read it yet. Surprise! It kinda sounds like a loose beauty and the beast retelling, but I may be completely off on that because I can’t find any evidence that that’s what this is.
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson – Like SJM books, I can never go a week without mentioning Sanderson either! I of course have all of his books on my TBR, but this one is his debut I believe so I’m super curious to see what it’s like compared to his other books.
Everless by Sara Holland – Time as currency is such a unique idea for a fantasy novel (or at least, I haven’t come across any others) so I was really excited when this one came in a subscription box forever ago. The longer I have this book the more unsure I am if I want to read it, but the reviews aren’t too bad so who knows. If you think this book is worth it let me know!
Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence – I own so many of Mark Lawrence’s books and this is one of them! This is the third book in a fantasy series that follows our main character from boyhood to adulthood, and I’ve heard its really dark which means I’ll love it!
Everything All At Once by Katrina Leno – This is a book that Chelsea from Chelseadollingreads on YouTube loved, and it sounded interesting so I decided to add it to my TBR. It’s about a girl whose aunt is the author of a well loved series (think Harry Potter well loved). The aunt suddenly passes away before finishing the series and the girl has to deal with her loss and finding herself.
I’m really proud of myself this week for being able to find five books for each category that starts with an E that doesn’t have “a” or “the” at the beginning of the title! What are some of your favorite books or books on your TBR that start with E?
Some letters seem like they would be hard to do. I still haven’t finished the eragon series. I wish they’d redo making a movie of it though.

Yes! I would love to see a good adaptation of Eragon! I don’t know why no one has done it yet!

Oh I was crazy about the Eragon books when I was in middle school! I did try them again when I was in uni and they unfortunately didn’t hold up, but the books got me started on a serious epic fantasy binge and I’ll always be thankful for that! 😀
