Book Blogger Inside Look Tag

I say this tag over on Pretty Purple Polka Dots and thought it would be a fun one to do to mix it up a little! It’s been a while since I’ve done a tag, my last one was actually my mid-year book freak out tag back in June! So I figured it was high time to do another tag, and with all the followers I’ve gained recently this seemed like a good one to show you all who I am as a blogger!

Where do you write your blog posts?

My favorite place to write blog posts is outside! Now that I have a laptop that I can actually move, it’s nice to be able to go wherever I want! My old laptop needed a constant power source in order for it to even stay on, so now that I have a brand new blogging laptop I like to sit out on my patio and watch Finley run around while I write blog posts.

How long does it generally take you to write a book review?

Well, I like to wait a few days after reading the book to start writing my review so that I don’t just sit there and gush about it instead of actually giving my thoughts on the book. But once I start writing it takes me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to write one review. I’ve been testing out a new review format which does take me a little longer to do than it used to, but I feel like it gives my reviews more structure and makes me think more about the aspects of the book that I really liked and didn’t like.

When did you start your book blog?

It will actually be two years this September! It honestly doesn’t feel like it’s been two years, but that could be due to the fact that my first year of blogging was pretty much just shouting into the void. I didn’t bother interacting or doing anything other than literally write a few sentences about a book and just left it at that. No formatting or anything! Just look how far I’ve come! I’m so proud of myself for finding something that I really love doing, and actually sticking with it!

What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

As much as I love blogging and interacting, the hardest thing for me is being consistent with both of those things. I do work a full time job on top of blogging, but I also need time to read and clean and eat and sleep, and there are only so many hours in the day. But I wouldn’t give this up for anything.

What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

I know everyone says this, but it’s true: I love that I get to interact with so many amazing people and talk about the books that we all love to read! It’s so nice to actually have people to talk to about books, because other than my grandmother no one else in my family is a reader and I don’t see her picking up any epic fantasy anytime soon. She’s more of a chick lit type of reader.

What is your favorite blog post to write?

I love writing my anticipated releases posts that I do monthly! I love looking for new releases that interest me and sharing them with all of you! I also really love doing my bookish list type of posts, like Top 10 Tuesday, Best of lists, and so on!

When do you typically write?

I usually write on the weekends, but honestly I write posts whenever I have a few minutes available to do so. Sometimes it can take me weeks to fully finish a post because I could be writing a little bit here and there, but sometimes I sit down and bang out a few posts back to back.

Do you review every book you read?

Not every book, but I definitely try! Sometimes I love a book but find that when I sit down to write a review I don’t know what I really want to say, so I just don’t write one. I don’t get sent a lot of review copies so I don’t feel pressure to review those types of books, so pretty much everything that I review are books that I already own or bought myself.

How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? Cuddled with your fur baby?

I usually have something going on in the background, whether that is watching my favorite booktubers, Netflix, or music, it doesn’t matter. I do like when Finley cuddles with me while I write blog posts, but he has so much energy that it’s hard to get him to stay still long enough for me to cuddle with him!

When do you write your book reviews? Right after finishing the book? Two weeks after finishing the book?

Like I mentioned above, I like to give it a few days before I write a review. If I wait too long then I’ll probably forget what I wanted to talk about, but if I do it right after reading the book I won’t have clear thoughts on the whole book. I mentioned that I started a new review format, and mainly that is because I found that I was being too wrapped up in the ending of the book to really write a review on the book as a whole. What I mean by that is if the end of the book has this big plot twist or cliffhanger, it was changing my review of the book completely.

How often do you post?

I try to stick to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but sometimes life gets in the way and I miss a day here or there. I’ve been doing really well the last two months on sticking to my schedule and it’s really paying off with my numbers and interactions!
