Book Reviews and Recommendations

Hi everyone! I was browsing twitter like you do when you’re avoiding all kinds of responsibilities when I came across this tag for Animal Crossing! I’m completely addicted to playing New Horizons, although I feel like my island isn’t nearly as nice as some that I’ve seen online. I used to play Animal Crossing City Folk wayyyyy back when, so I was really excited when New Horizons was announced.
Anyway, this tag was created by Two Book Thieves, so please go check out their blog and show some love!
The first character that comes to mind is Daine from The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce! She was one of the first characters I ever read about who had a magical connection with animals and now that’s one of my favorite things in books.
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah! It’s one of the historical fiction books that I still think of to this day and the ending made me SO EMOTIONAL.
I mean, the books I would choose I already have ARCs for (The Bone Shard Daughter, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue). I’m also really excited for To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, and every time I’ve requested it I’ve been denied so I really wish that I could just read it now!
All of a sudden I’m drawing a blank on all the books I’ve read with siblings in it. After looking at my shelves, I think I would have to say Arsinoe, Mirabella and Katherine from Three Dark Crowns! They have such a complex relationship with each other and the way that they are pitted against each other while still loving each other is just so interesting to me.
Okay, so this is a really big unpopular opinion, but I’m not the biggest fan of Rowan from Throne of Glass. There’s just something about him that rubs me the wrong way, although I did like his character a bit more in Kingdom of Ash, but out of all of SJM’s main love interests, he’s my least favorite. I still wish Aelin would’ve ended up with Dorian or Chaol in the end. (Also, I really loved Chaol which is another unpopular opinion).
So one of them is definitely Sarah J Maas, but there are a TON of authors that I’ll support no matter what! Kalyn Josephson (The Storm Crow), Brandon Sanderson, Nicholas Eames (Kings of the Wyld) and I’m also working on expanding my Tolkien collection, but technically that would go to his estate not him.
Every one of SJM’s friend groups that she’s written have been my favorite fictional families, but to give something different than another SJM answer, I’ll say the friend group in Shadow Frost! You could tell how much they all cared for each other and would do anything to protect each other and make sure everyone was happy, it was really heartwarming!
I actually don’t mind most tropes as long as they’re done well, but the one that kind of irritates me when it isn’t done correctly is a love triangle. Most books make it so that a character needs to choose between two love interests, when in fact, a triangle has another side so for it to be a REAL love triangle one of the love interests should have feelings for the second love interest. I don’t think I’ve EVER read a fantasy book that does the love triangle trope correctly, they always do a love arrow.
Well technically almost all the books I’ve read are set in a land far away from mine, seeing as I read mostly fantasy which is always a world that doesn’t exist. However, one of my favorites that is noticeably NOT centered around the area where I live would be Children of Blood and Bone! I loved the West African inspired fantasy world and how different it is from my own world!
Can Middle Earth count even though I’ve only read The Hobbit? Because I adore the movies and I absolutely LOVE the different forests and mountains. It’s literally the perfect setting for fantasy, and whenever I imagine the fantasy world I would want to visit, it’s always Middle Earth.
Those are my answers for the Animal Crossing New Horizons Book Tag! For this one, I’m going to tag…..
