Series I Want to Start in 2021

Hi everyone! Today I’m continuing my end of the year series here on my blog with the book series that I want to start in 2021. Judging from what I’ve read so far in 2020 (there’s still a few days left, I might finish more books), I’ve started more new series than what I’ve finished or continued on with. I’m probably going to start a ton of new series anyway, so might as well list them.

The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K.Jemisin

I really REALLY want to read something from this author because I’ve heard fantastic things, but I’m a little hesitant to start with The Fifth Season even though I’ve heard it’s her best series. It’s just a little intimidating and I’ve heard some people say it’s a bit confusing and doesn’t really make sense until like, the second book. So I want to get familiar with her writing by starting with The Inheritance Trilogy, starting with The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms! The synopsis of this one is kind of vague, but it sounds like it’s about a woman who becomes the heir to the king and has to fight to keep her place.

The God-King Chronicles by Mike Brooks

The first book in this series, The Black Coast, comes out February 2021 and I have an e-ARC copy that I’m so excited to read! It sounds like it will really be up my alley – dragons, knights, pirates, and dangerous magic and tons of battle scenes! I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I have high hopes about this series because it seems to have a lot of elements that I enjoy in my fantasy books.

The Books of Pellinor Series by Alison Croggon

This is an older series starting with The Naming, but they got new covers a few years ago and I saw them on sale, so I picked them up because the prequel novel sounded really interesting. It’s about a young girl who has a powerful gift that she can use to save her world from the evil that’s coming for them all. I always love a good versus evil story, and the fact that this has a 4.01 rating on goodreads with almost 25,000 ratings tells me that it’s worth the read!

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

This is another series that recently got a cover change, but I think it was kindle only. Still, it was enough to convince me to actually buy the first book after I had been on the fence for a while. I’m a big fan of fantasy romance, and this one sounds interesting with an immortal under the control of a witch who is sent to court to take the heart of a Prince in exchange for her freedom. The last few sentences of the synopsis has me wanting to really read this sooner rather than later: “So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all. Winner takes the loser’s heart. Literally.”

Rook & Rose Series by M.A. Carrick

This is a series that I actually have an ARC of the first book, The Mask of Mirrors, which comes out in January, and I’m really hoping that I like it! It’s an adult fantasy about a con artist who has to unite with a vigilante and a crime lord to save their city. I’ve started to read this, and the beginning is fairly slow so I think this one will take a bit of time to finish and really get into, but I’m still less than 20% in so hopefully things pick up soon! I’m enjoying the world and the characters are interesting so far.

What series do you want to read in 2021? I’d love to know!

  2. I have The Inheritance Trilogy on my TBR and hopefully, I will get to it in 2021. Mostly though, I am still focusing on reading all of the books I own. I have so many series sitting on my shelf waiting to be read I’m not even sure where to start.

    • Most of the books on this list are on my physical TBR (with the exception of a few). I had a terrible habit of buying a TON of books back when I first started blogging and I haven’t had a chance to read them all yet.
