Book Reviews and Recommendations
Hi everyone! If you’ve been to my blog or any of my other social media the past few weeks, you’ll know that I was doing some renovations to my apartment and had hardly any spare time to read. I’m happy to report that the work we were doing is pretty much finished now, so I’ll be able to have more time for reading and blogging again!
Because of everything going on, I only managed to finish two books in January which is the least amount of books that I’ve finished in a month in a very long time. This will be a slightly different style wrap up because of that and also because they were two books in the same series.
I first finished Fortuna Sworn and absolutely loved it! I had started it ages ago, but had only gotten about 15% in until I picked it up again in January and ended up flying through it. I loved Fortuna as a character, she was in such a tough position when we first met her and she really showed that she’s willing to do anything for the ones she loves. She definitely made a lot of terrible choices and isn’t known for being subtle, but that’s part of what I liked about her. I loved Collith as well and loved the way that he has to be two different people and how that impacts his relationship with Fortuna. The first book definitely gave me Feyre under the mountain vibes, but it’s definitely MUCH darker than that. (I make that comparison because fae + underground + set of trials). There is also a werewolf who comes into play later on in the book who was honestly one of my favorites. I still can’t quite figure out what the point of the plotline with Oliver is, but I’m sure that will be explained and connected to the fact that Fortuna is a Nightmare at some point.
The second book I finished (surprise!) was Restless Slumber. Without giving spoilers, the second book really expands the world we got a glimpse of in book one. Fortuna now has new responsibilities to handle, and when I said earlier that she isn’t subtle, I mean it! She wasn’t afraid to show everyone who she is and show that she should be respected and even feared. The relationship between Collith and Fortuna is literally SOOOO slow burn and the angst and sexual tension just keeps building up between them until that cliffhanger ending!
This is DEFINITELY not your usual fae story, it’s incredibly dark and may not be for everyone, although I personally loved both books so far and gave them both high ratings. This series as a whole has quite a few trigger warnings, including: rape, toxic relationships, suicide, domestic abuse, slavery, sexual harassment, and PTSD.
What books did you read in January? Have you started the Fortuna Sworn series yet? I’d love to chat!
I really want to start this series! I’m just kinda waiting until I get my hands on the third book so I can take my time with them

Yeah, I have book 3 on my Kindle, but I’m waiting until the 4th book release date gets closer, I think it’s supposed to be out late this year!
