June 2021 TBR

Hi everyone! I never know what to talk about in these intros, do people like personal life stuff, just introducing the post, or does no one even read them? 😂 I feel like they get really repetitive if I’m just introducing the post because a lot of my posts lately are ones that happen every month. If you have a preference please let me know!

Deciding what books I wanted to read in June was actually kind of difficult this time around! In the past I’ve tried to not repeat books on TBRs (which is silly, I know) but I don’t think I’m going to be able to do that as often anymore.

The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman – Like most of the books on my TBR, I’ve had my eye on this one for a while! This was something I had preordered, and I’m excited to read it! I’ve actually started this already and I have some mixed feelings so far, but I’ll get into that during my wrap up for June. This follows a thief who goes on a quest to giant riddled lands with a corvid knight and a witch.

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard – I read the first three books in the Red Queen series, but I never read the final book because I just kind of lost interest in the series. However, I’m definitely curious about this authors newest series. It sounds like a found family, quest to save the world kind of story, and those are always enjoyable so I’m really hoping I enjoy this!

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint – I love Greek mythology even though I don’t read too many retellings or reimaginings. This one retells the story of Ariadne, who helps Theseus kill her brother, the Minotaur. I’m loving the trend of giving women the spotlight in these stories that have always focused on the men, and I’m really hoping this one lives up to the hype it’s getting!

Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian – On the trend of feminist stories, we have this reimagining of an Arthurian myth. This is one of my ARCs for July, and I’m really hoping that I enjoy it! This follows Elaine who is cursed to see the future. Elaine, Guinevere, Lancelot and Morgana go with Arthur to take his throne where magic is outlawed, and Elaine needs to decide how far she will go to change fate.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan – The blurb says this is Mulan meets The Song of Achilles, which sounds incredibly interesting! Zhu Chongba is given a fate of greatness, while his sister is destined to be nothing. When Zhu Chongba dies after a bandit attack, his sister uses his identity to survive and avoid her fate while claiming her brother’s greatness. This is another book that’s been getting a lot of hype lately, and I’ve very excited that I have an ARC for it!

A Dragonbird in the Fern by Laura Rueckert – This is the first of my August ARCs, so if I don’t get to it in June I have a little more time to get it read. This one is about a princess who gets married to her deceased sister’s betrothed, only to find evidence that her sister’s assassin came from his country. If she marries the king, she’ll be able to find her sister’s killer and release her family from her ghost. I haven’t heard many people talking about this one, but it sounds really interesting!

What books do you want to read in June? I’d love to chat!
