July 2021 TBR

Hi everyone! Today I’m talking about the books that I want to read in July! At this point I don’t really have any hope that I’ll actually be able to read 6 books in July since I’ve only read a max of 5 books in a month like, twice this year. That aside, I’ve got a good list of books this month that I’m REALLY excited for, so I mean there is a small possibility that I’ll be able to read them all!

The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L Armentrout – I first read From Blood and Ash last year in September, and in my review I said that I didn’t really like the romance towards the end but I was willing to see where things went in the second book. Then I read the second book last month and while the world building was kind of subpar for me, the relationship really shone and I just need to know what happens next to the characters, so I’ll definitely be reading The Crown of Gilded Bones this month!

The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid – I’ve been waiting for this book to come out for so long! This is inspired by Hungarian history and Jewish mythology where a pagan woman is given away to the king as payment for her village. I’m actually already 36% into this one so far and I’m definitely enjoying it and I’m excited to see where it goes!

Gild by Raven Kennedy – Okay, so I started a booktok and immediately started adding books to my TBR that people were recommending. A lot of the ones that are popular are ones that I’ve already read or have no interest in, but sometimes one would come along where I just felt the need to read! Gild was definitely the first of those, it’s a King Midas fantasy romance retelling! It’s definitely not going to be for everyone, there is an authors note in the synopsis that says it has darker elements and also non-consensual sex that could be triggering to some people. I however, am really curious about it!

A Dragonbird in the Fern by Laura Rueckert – I’ve also started this one, and I’m currently 44% into it. I’m reading an e-ARC for this book and it comes out on August 3rd! I’m so surprised I haven’t seen anyone talking about this book yet because the synopsis sounds so interesting. Essentially, Princess Jiara’s older sister is murdered and so she’s become a ghost intent on getting revenge, and so to find her sister’s killer, Jiara takes her sister’s place as the bride to the king of a neighboring kingdom where the assassin might have come from. A fantasy murder mystery sounds incredible, plus it’s looking like it’ll have a slow burn romance!

The Pariah by Anthony Ryan – This is one of the other August ARCs that I have, and this time I have a physical copy to read! I’m really excited about this one, I always love books published by Orbit and I’ve got high expectations for this one as well. Alwyn Scribe was raised as an outlaw, but an act of betrayal sets him on a new path to become a soldier in the king’s army. I love fantasy that gets pretty dark and gruesome, and I’m fully expecting this one to go in that direction. I have to balance out all this fantasy romance somehow!

Seven Deaths of an Empire by GR Matthews – The final book on my TBR this month is Seven Deaths of an Empire, which is another grimdark fantasy because I needed something to balance out the fantasy romance. This one is about rebellion, with assassins, thieves and politicians trying to take over the empire after the Emperor dies. It sounds like there is going to be a lot of betrayals, political intrigue, magic and hopefully tons of action! The reviews I’ve read so far have been really positive, so I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy it.

This month’s TBR is really ambitious – it may only be 6 books, but it’s also almost 3,000 pages, because most of the books are over 500 pages each. What books do you want to read in July?
