Book Reviews and Recommendations
Hi everyone! It’s already the end of the first week of August and I’m only now thinking about what my August TBR should be. That’s what happens though when you take a weeklong vacation at the end of the month, all the posts that I usually do get pushed back! I also ended up completely changing my TBR, so I had to rewrite this whole freaking post anyway.
Wings of Shadow by Nicki Pau Preto – This is the third and final book in the Crown of Feathers series and I just NEED to know what happens to these characters! If you haven’t read this series yet, you are definitely missing out. Political intrigue, dark magic, animal companions, and they ride phoenixes! There are so many plot twists in this series and the writing is superb, so I’m sure I’ll be a little sad to see this one end, but I can’t wait!
The Endless Skies by Shannon Price – This is one of my ARCs that comes out in August, and I already read a good portion of it so I don’t think it’ll take me long to finish it. I really like the idea of winged-lion shifters and as soon as I saw that in the synopsis I requested it! It does seem to be reading on the younger side of YA so far, but I’m not that far in so it could change at any moment.
Small Favors by Erin A Craig – I’ve had my eye on this one for quite a while, so I had to make sure I got a copy when it released! I’m really looking forward to this one because House of Salt and Sorrows was really eerie and I’m fully expecting this one to be even better! This is set in the mountains in a town surrounded by an impenetrable forest, which sounds like the perfect setting for an eerie book with monsters in the woods.
A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee – There’s been a lot of dark academia books coming out lately and it’s definitely having it’s moment. I have quite a few on my TBR, but this one a thriller with witches and a haunted boarding school, which sounds so incredibly interesting. I’ve already made some progress on this one and I’m loving the vibes it’s giving me! If I wasn’t reading this in August it seems like it would be the perfect fall read!
The Seven Visitations of Sydney Burgess by Andy Marino – Maybe you can tell from some of the books this month, but I’m starting to prepare for ~spooky season~. This sounds so creepy! The main character is a victim of a home invasion and is knocked unconscious, but when she wakes up and tells police the tale of her escape they inform her that the intruder was murdered in her house. From this moment, the main character’s carefully built life starts to break down and her buried past starts to reveal itself. This one is an ARC that comes out in September!
Red Rising by Pierce Brown – Okay, so this one might not help out with the spooky theme, but I feel like I’ve been seeing this one everywhere again lately and since I’ve had the first two books on my shelves for YEARS I figured it’s time for me to at least start the series to see what all the fuss is about! If you haven’t heard of Red Rising yet (which would kind of surprise me), it’s a sci-fi dystopian story about a member of the lowest caste of society who has spent his life working below the surface of Mars to help make the planet more livable, only to find out that it’s all a lie and his caste has been kept in the dart as nothing more than slaves. The main character will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies.
What books are you planning on reading in August? I’d love to chat!
I need to read Red Rising as well! I have heard nothing but good things about it. I’m not sure what I plan on reading this month tbh… we are going to be packing so I’m not sure I’ll have a lot of time to read ๐ฆ
