Book Reviews and Recommendations
Hi everyone! I did REALLY good with my reading in January so I’m kind of being a little ambitious with my February TBR. I’ve started listening to audiobooks again this year which has really helped boost my reading again, so I’m hoping that means I can make a bigger dent in my TBR than I did last year, and also read more of the books that I’ve been hoping to get to!
This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel – This is one of my February ARCs (it actually released on February 2nd, so I’m a little behind). I really enjoyed the previous book from this author Darling Rose Gold, so I was very curious about this next book! It’s a thriller about a cult and a woman who is trying to keep secrets from her sister, and it sounds really interesting.
Lock the Doors by Vincent Ralph – This is a YA thriller about a family who moves into a house that has locks on the bedroom doors from the outside, and strange messages written on the walls. Sounds like it might be a haunted house kind of thriller, and I’m very excited about it! I believe this comes out on March 1st (although Goodreads lists another edition that says a release date of February 4th).
House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas – It shouldn’t surprise anyone that I will be reading the newest release from SJM! I really enjoyed the start of this series, the setting is so different from her other series and I’m very curious to see where everything goes in the second book. The characters are always the strongest part of her books for me, I always end up falling in love with them and I’m wondering how much this book will make me cry!
In the Ravenous Dark by A.M. Strickland – Not going to lie, I don’t know too much about this one. I know it has to do with magic that is bound to undead spirits, and that there is a poly romance and that’s pretty much it. I added this to my TBR after I read and loved Iron Widow which also has a poly romance and realized how much I liked reading that, so when I heard this had it too I instantly added it to my TBR!
Engines of Empire by R.S. Ford – This sounds to me like there’s going to be a lot of political intrigue and war going on in this book! We follow three siblings who are sent across the empire to learn different skills, and they are going to be the deciding factor in the empire’s salvation or destruction. There isn’t really a lot more that I got out of the synopsis than that, but it also sounds like it’ll be a steampunk SFF which will be fun!
Nophek Gloss by Essa Hansen – With the sequel coming out soon, I figured it was about time that I read this sci-fi that I’ve had my eye on since it came out back in 2020! It follows a boy who is on a quest to get revenge on the beings who killed his family and destroyed his world. I’ve been really itching for some good sci-fi lately and I think this might be a good one to take on!
Scorpica by G.R. MacAllister – This is my other February Arc (release date is February 22nd) and I did already start this. I’m only 10 pages in or so and so far, I’m not sure how I feel about it. All that’s happened so far is a lot of discussion around motherhood, labor and being a parent which I don’t relate to at all, but I want to continue through to see what happens because the synopsis sounds so interesting!
What books are you hoping to read in February?
I hope you have a great reading month! Scorpica sounds really good, interested in your thoughts!

Thank you! I’m hoping I like it, so far it’s definitely a different kind of fantasy than I’m used to, that’s for sure!

A series called His Dark Materials by I-forget-the-author’s-name, and I hope to finish reading The Empire’s Legacy Trilogy by Marian L Thorpe. That’s the second two books – I read Empire’s Daughter last month!
The first is a fantasy series recommended to me by someone. The second is a very character-focused historical fantasy.
I might read more than that, but those are what is on the immediate TBR list. Also, I am trying to take a break – relax – from a lot of things this month!
