I’ve got a BS in Environmental Conservation, so this book was especially chilling for me. It may be kind of a far stretch, but something like this could be possible in the future what with animals (and humans) always evolving. This book just sucked me in and kept me interested from start to finish. Definitely a must read if you enjoy mysteries and animals. Its not an outright scary book, but it definitely gets you thinking about what if?

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

I LOVED finally getting to see what Chaol has been up to for the last few books, and it was just as great as I expected! The relationships/sex scenes in Tower of Dawn were not as detailed *ahem* as in the last books, which was really refreshing and let you focus on the action and story of the book. That big reveal about Erawan was fantastic and I honestly did not see it coming! Now we wait for the next book to see what happens.

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory

This is a tough book to get through, I should’ve read some more reviews before I bought this book. I stopped reading this book at page 328. It was just so dry and seemed very bland in the writing style. The witchcraft was a little weird, seemed like it was thrown in to try to spice it up but it doesn’t really work. I really wanted to like this book and I’ll probably try to finish it later because I don’t like leaving books unfinished, but it was just to hard to get through.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

This easily became one of my favorite books ever. This is one of those books that you sit down to start reading and realize that hours have gone by and you haven’t moved from the position you started the book in. This is definitely one of those books that you fly through because you can’t put it down and it just pulls you in.

The writing flows so naturally it doesn’t even feel like your actually reading a book that’s almost 700 pages long, and all the characters were surprisingly relatable for a book in this genre. You would think that reading a book about a man telling his life story, including seemingly mundane tasks like class and trying to earn money would be boring, but that was never the case with this book. Every word had a meaning and there was always something more to the “average” scenes than what you originally thought.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, whether they enjoy this type of fantasy or not!

I gave the book 3 stars instead of 2 because I really liked the idea of this book, there were just parts I did not like. It seemed far too fast paced and there were some plot holes as well. I found that I would read a section and it would completely change topic and I would have to go back and reread to see if I missed a page in between. This was especially confusing when Lark lost days apparently staring at Coal? This definitely could’ve used more explaining as this section seemed like it was just thrown in just to move the plot ahead a few days.

It didn’t really make sense to me that Lark went back and forth between “I’m just a doormat” to “I’m a fierce warrior” every other page. It was also very obvious that she is not useless from the very beginning of the book, but everyone around her, including herself, continuously say she is useless. It actually got kind of annoying that they had to mention that on every page, like the point was made that everyone thinks she’s useless move on from it.

There was also a line early on that kind of bothered me, where Lark mentions that she must be retarded because she is weak and can’t do anything by herself. I just didn’t like the use of the word retarded in this regard, a better word definitely could’ve been chosen.

I did like how the book was fairly short and easy to read within a few hours, but I also feel that the book could’ve been so much better to me if it was just slightly longer, enough so that things could’ve been explained more thoroughly.
